Stroke Prevention in Atrial Fibrillation
Cha Myung-Jin

Abstract
It is important to evaluate the risks of stroke and bleeding when screening patients with atrial fibrillation (AF), in whom anticoagulation therapy is indicated. Oral anticoagulation therapy is recommended in male AF patients with CHA2DS2-VASc score ¡Ã1 and female AF patients with CHA2DS2-VASc score ¡Ã2. Non-vitamin K oral anticoagulants (NOACs) are preferred over vitamin K anticoagulants in eligible patients. NOACs are contraindicated in patients with mechanical heart valves or moderate-to-severe mitral stenosis.
